2011 Buick Regal LNF

We never thought we’d cover anything with a Buick badge on it ‘cept maybe if it was followed by the GNX acronym. We feel sort of obligated to do so now however since the top brass at Buick has decided to toss in some turbocharged, direct-injected, 2-liter love that we all know as the impressive LNF powerplant. The LNF has been the force behind many of GM’s most popular tuner cars so what is the engine that gets more horsepower per liter than the Corvette ZR1’s LS9 doing under the bonnet of a Buick?

Back in August we reached out to all of you to submit the questions you’d like to have answered by the infamous John Heinricy. We got with John to get answers to your questions and posted the entire Q&A as a special treat to you, the GMTunerSource.com fan. Well after that feature was over and John had spent a little more seat time in the Stage 1-equipped Cobalt SS Turbo, we received some more questions from all of you and followed up with John to see what his long-term opinions and observations were of the kit. Mr. Heinricy was kind enough to give us his take, which we have exclusively after the break.

Cobalt SS Turbo Stage 1 Sale

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to upgrade your Cobalt SS Turbo up to Stage 1 status then this is it! For a limited time only CrateEngineDepot.com is holding a sale on the much ballyhooed Cobalt SS Turbo Stage 1 kit. Tom over at CED is letting these kits goes for only $498 and no pennies! That price also includes shipping to anywhere in the contiguous US of A however if you live somewhere else, don’t fret, Tom will make sure he can get your kit to your doorstep in a jiffy. If the price isn’t enough to get you going, check out these comments by owners whose only complaint about the kit is that they’ll need new tires very soon.

As usual with anything surrounding the Cobalt Turbo Upgrade Kit, our post yesterday got blasted with comments and questions both on and offline. In order to provide an easy way to see those responses, we’ve gone ahead and collected some of them and got with Bill Duncan at GM HPVO to get some answers for you to review in case you had some questions of your own. Check out those responses after the jump.

Here’s a quick update from GM HPVO on the status of the LNF Turbo Upgrade kit for the Cobalt SS Turbo. As we’ve mentioned before, the way the CARB system is setup, there is no way to know an EXACT date but we hope this small update will help calm the nerves of those that have been drinking Red Bull and not sleeping ever since we announced that the kit would be available for the Cobalt SS Turbo.

Chevy Corvette ZR1 Totaled Wreck

Yup, it's finally happened - someone has sentenced a ZR1 to the scrap head by mangling the $110,000 supercar into a wall at Watkins Glen this past weekend. At first sight of the carnage you're thinking "I've been had, that's a C6.R not a ZR1!" But look a little closer and you can tell that the case here is not one of trickery but rather that of a diehard Corvette Racing fan that wanted to adorn his newest purchase with something in honor of the Corvette Racing team. That tribute came in the form of last year's "Jake" paint scheme that was created for the season-ending race at Laguna Seca where the Corvette Racing guys came out a lot better than this particular Corvette did.

Shaun Carlson Farewell at 35

I have taken sometime to myself before I have said anything about the recent tragedy, which has been the passing of Shaun Carlson. Some of you may not know him, but many of you have seen his fingerprint and incredible cars that he has built over the years. It would take me several hours to sit and tell you all the accomplishments that Shaun has had but I will leave that to some others that are doing stories on Shaun right now. I will post at the end of this blog some other sites that have talked to his accomplishments so you can hear from the others whose lives were so greatly affected by Shaun.
