Formula D Irwindale Ryan Tuerck Victory

Irwindale is known as the "House of Drift" and for good reason as this past Saturday 15,000 Drift-hungry fans packed the Irwindale Speedway to watch the final round of the Formula D season come to a close in dramatic fashion. GMTS was all hands on deck as we rooted for our man Ryan Tuerck and his Mobil 1/Gardella Racing Pontiac Solstice as he faced an uphill battle against some of the top names in Drifting at a packed house at Irwindale. Tuerck took to the challenge like a sideways fish to water and in his typical style, went all out in every aspect of every matchup.

Chevy Camaro SS Drifting Formula Drift

Our friend Antonio at MotorMavens.com just posted the latest on a story we broke back in June - that a 2010 Camaro would be going drifting! We posted that one of the winners of a SEMA Camaro was pro drifter Conrad Grunewald. However, a rendering of this upcoming sideways Camaro was hard to come by but that’s where Antonio came in, and then some. MotorMavens just posted renderings of Conrad’s Camaro along with some fabrication shots that make us drool for more. We have all the pictures for you here as well that you can check out after the jump.

Darren McNamara of Falken Tires Motorsports pilots one of the baddest Saturn Sky's in the world. He has been charging hard in the car all year and his hard work finally paid off at the Formula D event in New Jersey. Darren was running really strong at this event and has made all of us ECOtec lovers proud with his performance and win. We love seeing performances like this and I'm sure Mr. Roger Penske does as well. Saturn, may it live forever!

This weekend was a big day in the world of Drifting as it was the kickoff to the 2009 Formula Drift season in the Streets of Long Beach. Many of the top Drifters debuted with new vehicles for 2009 but none of them could outperform the Gardella Racing Mobil 1 Pontiac Solstice driven by Ryan Tuerck. We have done a few stories leading up to the debut of this car so many of you should be familiar with it. If not, please check on some of the older posts showing you both pictures and videos of this build.

Gardella Racing took a big step in 2008 and decided do something they'€™ve never done before by putting together a drift car, in the form of a Pontiac Solstice GXP, to run in the 2008 Formula D season. Their efforts paid off however, as the Mobil 1/Gardella Racing built Pontiac Solstice ran strong all season and took out many more powerful competitors, despite the Solstice only having 330 ponies to drift around the track with. Ryan Tuerck, the driver of the Mobil 1/Gardella Racing Pontiac Solstice GXP, was literally the driving force behind the team'€™s domination and so much so that Tuerck was awarded the Formula D Driver of the Year award for his performance during the 2008 Formula D season. For 2009 however, Gardella Racing has some bigger plans in mind's

Becoming the world champion of anything is a terrific accomplishment, and after this weekend's Red Bull Drifting World Championship, only Rhys Millen can call himself the "World Champion"€ of drifting. Rhys Millen, and his Pontiac Solstice GXP, went up against 32 of the world’s best drifting competitors this past weekend in Long Beach, with 17 of them being past or present champions of other top drifting organizations.
